Follow these instructions to set up your WS4 label printer with UPS WorldShip via USB on your Windows device.
- Unpack your WS4, load 4×6 label stock, connect it to power, and plug it into the computer you want to print from via USB cable.
- Head to the printer drivers download page to get the standard SATO drivers (which include the WS4).
- Once the drivers are installed, go to “Printers & Scanners” in Windows, select the SATO WS4, and click “Manage.” Then, select “Printer Properties,” go to the “Ports” tab, and make sure that the box labeled “Enable Bidirectional Support” is unchecked. Hit “Apply” and then exit.
- In the UPS WorldShip software, go to “Tools” and select the “System Preferences” dropdown. Choose “Printing Setup” and click on the line called “Label1.”
Note: It’s important here that you are only changing the printer for your Label1 format, not adding a new line. By default, there should be three lines in UPS WorldShip: Invoice1, Label1, and Report1. Each can be assigned to a different printer. - With the Label1 line selected, click “Printer Setup,” then “Change Label Printer.” Select the SATO WS4 from the menu and click “Add Printer.” If it asks for the Printer Type Selection, choose “Other” from the dropdown menu. Select the SATO WS4 again from the new list that appears. Finally, check the box labeled “Generic Thermal Printer,” select Thermal 4×6 from the dropdown menu, and click “Apply.”
- You should be returned to the “Printing Setup” page, where you can click “Print Test Page” to ensure the process has been successful.
